SWIM-A-THON A SUCCESS!
Amazing what can happen in a 24 hour period. The Young Guns scrambled at the last minute to fill all their slots with minimum personnel. Then they truly brought out some big guns during the bonus period. The Old Timers showed their experience by filling all the slots early and distributing the load over a number of people. So while the Old Timers will be enjoying their holiday season the Young Guns will be catching up on some sleep of course they are young and their recovery time is much faster.
In the end, all of your efforts will help support over 72 kids next year. This year's swim-a-thon raised $2,885. Great Job. Special thanks to David Robinson and Helena Duerksen for being the top male and female fundraisers. David collected $295 and Helena raised $155 dollars. They will each get an award from the YMCA as well a $15 RoadID gift card from Competitors Choice Timing Specialist.
Young Guns vs Old Timers, the tale of two tapes. The Old Timers came out strong with 38 participants to the Young Guns 17 (really come on). As I mentioned before, the Young Guns brought it during the bonus hours racking up 133,500 yards in the bonus hours to the Old Timers 69,994 bonus yards. The Old Timers were not be outdone and showed strength in numbers by swimming 179,650 actual yards to the Young Guns 153,550. When the water settled the Young Gun ended up with 287,050 yards to the Old Timers 249,644 yards. Pretty incredible to think almost 190 miles of swimming was done in over 24 hours by 55 people. Every year we have had some pretty crazy performances, but I think this year may top the previous years. The awards for top yardage (at one shot) male and female go to: Jon Messenger 15,800, Chrissy Usher 11,000. They will each get an award from the YMCA as well a $15 RoadID gift card from Competitors Choice Timing Specialist.
To wrap it up I need to give a special shout out to Ben Gurtler. He truly gets the crazy award. Ben swam close to 7 hours over two different time periods and racked up 21,500 yards which is just over 12 miles of swimming. Although we don't have an award for that I think that is truly remarkable so Competitors Choice Timing Specialist is going to give Ben a $30 RoadID gift card.
Thanks again to everyone for their generosity and time donations this time of year. If you are a KRVTC member please make sure you get your numbers updated for the NCC. Contact Alan Farrington if you have questions. Rumor has it we might have someone go for the full 24 hours next year! Until next time I hope everyone has a great Christmas and holiday season.
